"I am now a HUGE believer in doulas..."
I am now a HUGE believer in doulas and the services NOVA birth partners provides - Kim helped me to have the natural birth I wanted (even with 5+ hours of pushing and I wanted to give up); the breastfeeding class was so good that the lactation consultant in the hospital was amazed I was a first time Mom; and most recently, Colleen helped our baby learn to take the bottle in just a day, after weeks of fighting it. We intend to use NBP services for our next birth as well! - Dawn H.

"Her calm and reassuring words, were exactly, what I needed to hear..."
Our doula Angie was a pure delight, very supportive and the strength I needed. This was our first child and I had no idea what to expect when going into labor. Since her mom was a midwife many moons ago, she had the experience and knowledge first hand about child birth that I was looking for, plus, she spoke Spanish, which was a great thing for me, since My family is from Chile. My due date was August 10th, but I went into labor early on the 1st of August. I had spent the 1st of August with a bit of pain and the next day is when all the everything became super real. I had called Angie the night before and told her that my Doctor said that I had dilated only 1/2 a centimeter. So, Angie said, she would be over early in the morning. I had been in pain throughout the night and slept very little. Angie had arrived right on time, because by this point I was in excruciating pain and I wasn't dilating at all. The pain would come every 7-10 minutes Angie guided and had me focus on each contraction, she said " Stay with me here, breath and release all air within your body and breath hard, blow out the air" That helped, because I would panic and tighten up, which did not help at all with the pain. I wasn't focused on anything but the pain, which was not the best thing to do. I was not eating and couldn't sleep. My mom and Husband where with me as well. She directed them with what would help me get through this. She was with me during the contractions, she had my husband feed me some chicken soup and my mom give me water. Angie needed me to keep hydrated as much as possible. Each contraction felt like the longest 30-60 secs of pain I had ever gone through. I had never experienced pain like that before. Angie would massage my hips and squeeze them to relieve the pain of each contraction. It definitely helped. She would accompany me to the bathroom every time I had to go (which, mind you, I had to go several times, since I was drinking lots of water). Angie was my support, she helped me relax and stay positive. Her calm and reassuring words, were exactly, what I needed to hear, when I was going through this pain. I wasn't sure what to expect when I opted to have a doula, like I mentioned before, I wanted to have a Natural Birth. But, unfortunately plans changed. Angie was not there to judge me on changing my decision. On the contrary, she insisted, my husband call the doctor and tell them we were coming in. She followed us to the hospital and wanted to stay with me over night and hesitated to leave. I insisted after I was given my epidural, that she could go home and rest and I would call her first thing in the morning. Since I knew that when I needed her most was during delivery. She finally gave in and said, she would go. I on the other hand, finally had began to dilate, after the doctor broke my water. Next morning,I called Angie and she immediately came. Angie was guiding me not to push to hard and stay on the path of pushing, when the nurse instructed me. With only 45 minutes of pushing, Aria Taylor Wines was born. 7lbs even, she was! 10 fingers and 10 toes and perfect! Angie was there the whole time with her positive attitude and loving nurturing ways. She reminded me very much of a mother figure and since she has 5 kids of her own, she knew the exact words to say to keep me calm. She was so sweet and loving. I hadn't meet with her many times, But, during my whole labor, I felt like I knew her all my life. She made me feel safe and knew my breaking points during labor. Angie was by far more than I expected her to be, during one of the most important times in my life. Thank you Angie! - Patricia V.

"NOVA Birth Partners Doulas are life savers."
NOVA Birth Partners Doulas are life savers. I wanted to have a better experience with my second pregnancy and so I decided to find a Doula who would help me have a positive experience. I found Dawn with Nova Birth Partners and I was immediately drawn to her. First, Dawn is a mother and hence knew the challenges of pregnancy and labor and also postpartum challenges. My family will ALWAYS be grateful that Dawn was with us during our pregnancy.
She offered advice throughout my pregnancy. I was a little late in signing up for a Doula, I got a Doula in my last trimester so I was a little anxious about third trimester challenges and labor challenges. Dawn was always available on the phone for encouragement. She gave me ideas on how to take care of my back-pain issues (non-prescription) as I got bigger and bigger in my third trimester. I engaged in Pre-natal yoga and meditation which assisted me during my labor.
So, I was hoping to get a VBAC, and as I neared the end of my pregnancy, one of my OBGYN did not think I could have a successful VBAC and instead suggested scheduling for a Caesarean section. I was terrified of this surgery, disappointed, and depressed. Dawn was positive and informed me to keep up with pre-natal yoga, breathing exercises and meditation.
When I went into labor, Dawn was by my side. She brought my birthing plan to the hospital and gave it to the health care team. Dawn, incorporated a birthing ball, rocking chair, walking and a jacuzzi to help with labor pains. I was not trying for a natural birth so, I did ask for an epidural later as my labor progressed. I was able to walk, use a birthing ball and rocking chair before the epidural. After the epidural, Dawn assisted me with positioning frequently with a “peanut ball” this helped tremendously.
After being in labor for 12 hours, we finally welcomed our child whilst avoiding a C-section. I was ecstatic. Dawn was VERY patient, she was with us for the entire 12 hours. In summary, Dawn was encouraging, positive, giving me tips as I went through my pregnancy and in labor. She visited with me 2-3 times prenatally and 1-time postpartum, but she constantly checked in with me on the phone. Faith, who is the RN co-ordinator and a Labor and delivery nurse helped with all the paperwork. She was very helpful. I have recommended Dawn to my friends. If I need a doula, I would use Dawn, again and again. With Dawn, I knew I had a true advocate and nothing could go wrong. THANK YOU DAWN AND NOVA BIRTH PARTNERS. - Irene N.

"...her cheerful disposition and calming energy made my labor/delivery process extremely peaceful with minimal medical intervention..."
I can't say enough about how much of an invaluable resource Melissa has been to me; late in my pregnancy and postpartum. My birth plan changed suddenly (due to a health concern) and once I informed Melissa of the change, she helped me remain calm and held my hand all the way up until my delivery. Melissa was everything I could ask for and more during the labor and delivery process and then some! She brought laminated copies of my birth plan for the staff, essential oils for me, candles, and lots of other goodies I didn't have an opportunity to use (I had a very fast delivery). Melissa is extremely knowledgable and professional; her cheerful disposition and calming energy made my labor/delivery process extremely peaceful with minimal medical intervention. Working with Melissa has been effortless and an all around pleasance experience. I highly recommend Melissa to any family in need of an experienced, professional advocate; she will make a HUGE difference in your overall labor/delivery experience. - Elle B.

"Without her help during that time, things would have been so much more stressful..."
I wanted to pass along a note about Angie. I can't express how much we enjoyed having her be a part of our family! From the moment she arrived, I felt at ease. She helped me navigate the early, stressful, sleepless days by lending a helping hand and a sympathetic ear. As Clark grew older, she continued to give him all of the love and attention and young baby needs. I felt 100% confident at all times that my baby was in wonderful hands. Angie gave me helpful tips and advice about how to care for Clark in the most respectful and courteous of ways. I learned so much just by watching her!
Angie was always on time, and recently, when Clark got sick, she helped for several days in a row on just a moments notice. Without her help during that time, things would have been so much more stressful. I knew my son was getting all the TCL a sick baby requires, while still allowing for me to have time to work. It was an absolute life-saver.
Angie is such a great representation of NOVA Birth Partners. I would, without hesitation, recommend her services to anyone! - Sarah G.
