Understanding Doula Services Using the Carrot Employer Benefit

Here at NOVA Birth Partners, we know that doulas are essential support people during and after childbirth. When clients reach out to us for assistance, we are realizing that many have never heard of the Carrot Fertility Insurance Employer Benefit. They do not know or expect to receive reimbursement support through an employer or that much needed doula services can be covered or reimbursed by insurance. We have had many Carrot Fertility families receive reimbursement for services to date. Carrot Fertility can reimburse both the birth and postpartum doula services we provide. Our certified Carrot Fertility Doulas help families all over the country. We can help you receive the nighttime or daytime postpartum doula care your family needs most wherever you live.

How To Take Advantage Of Carrot’s Doula Benefit & Maternity Coverage
Eligibility for Carrot Fertility approved doula services requires the family to use a doula with the following qualifications in order to be approved for consideration for reimbursement. As of May 2024, those requirements include:
CERTIFICATION Doulas need to hold a current and valid certificate. Some commonly used certification programs include (but are not limited to):
BirthWorks International, CAPPA: Childbirth and Postpartum Professional Association, ToLabor, DONA International or ICEA: International Childbirth Education Association
TRAINING The doula must have attended at least 24 hours of evidence-informed training that included one or more of the following areas:
Physiology of labor, Labor doula training, Antepartum doula training, Postpartum doula training or Bereavement training
Their training must also require periodic certification renewal and/or continuing education.
EXPERIENCE The doula must be at least 18 years old and have spent a minimum of 15 hours providing doula services in one or more of the following areas:
Continuous labor support for at least three childbirths as the primary labor doula supporting the birthing parent. At least two of those births must be vaginal births. The doula must also have provided antepartum and postpartum support for at least one birth.
Postpartum support following at least three childbirths
Bereavement support for at least three pregnancy losses
To be eligible for doula reimbursement through Carrot Fertility, you must have an active policy with Carrot Fertility and you must use an approved doula that can attest to the qualifications provided above.
If you qualify to receive a Carrot Fertility benefit, it is best to contact your employer to find out what your reimbursement employee benefit specifics are in detail. The actual Carrot Fertility benefit varies from employer to employer. Every employer can pick and choose their desired health plan and related benefits for their staff. Certified Doula coverage by Carrot Fertility may include 6 weeks of daytime and overnight doula care from birth, in addition to prenatal and birth support, but it does vary from company to company, business to business.
Depending on your employer’s plan you will either need to request a “superbill” or itemized receipt from your Carrot Fertility approved doula that includes a detailed payment invoice showing the price and services includedd. You would then submit this to Carrot Fertility for reimbursement. Other plans include a “Carrot Card”, commonly used like an Health Savings Account (HSA) or Federal Savings Account (FSA) card that you can use to pay for your certified doula services directly.

2. PAY FOR DOULA SERVICES Once we receive your form, we will contact you to confirm. We will pair you with Carrot Fertility approved postpartum doulas to interview that are available for your requested time. Once you have selected your preferred doula, the next step is to complete payment to reserve the services. Upon payment, we provide you with all of the necessary documents and forms required for reimbursement. We will complete the Carrot Fertility Attestation form and provide you with an itemized invoice stating what you are requesting as far as services.
3. GET REIMBURSEMENT FROM CARROT FERTILITY After paying for Carrot Fertility approved postpartum doula services, the final step is to start the reimbursement process with Carrot Fertility through their portal as provided to you through your employer. Simply submit the details of your payment, the attestation form, and your doula's credentials (should they request it) to Carrot Fertility, along with itemized invoice NOVA Birth Partners will provide you.

HOW DO I FIND POSTPARTUM DOULAS ACCEPTING CARROT FERTILITY BENEFITS? You will need a certified doula that meets the Carrot Fertility qualifications and is approved or willing to be approved by Carrot Fertility based on their requirements above. Many of the doulas on the NOVA Birth Partners team have previously worked with families who have been successfully reimbursed through Carrot Fertility.
