These are unprecedented times...
Thankfully, being laser-focused on the individual, uniquely evolving needs of our families has made our response to the Coronavirus pandemic not only easy, but also effective beyond what we had imagined. Although much of what we do is delineated to virtual communications, it has enabled us to spend even more time on the psychosocial and emotional needs of the people we serve. With clinical care, there is much more focus on the concrete nature of health as a concept. We know, the mental and the emotional wellbeing of a person is largely impactful to their physical health.

What to Know about COVID-19, Pregnancy, Birth & Postpartum
Novel Coronavirus disease, caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2, SARS-CoV-2, also known as COVID-19, is an evolving public health concern of worldwide significance. The World Health Organization (WHO) officially declared Coronavirus disease (COVID-19) a pandemic as a result of its deadly global, unpredictable reach.
Although considerable data on COVID-19 is available, much is still very unknown in regards to the effects on pregnant people and their newborns. At this time, no data exists that supports the assumption that pregnant people are more susceptible to COVID-19. As of June 2020, pregnant people with COVID-19 do not appear to be at increased risk for severe disease compared with the population at large. Recent data from New York City highlighted 43 pregnant women with COVID-19 that received care from two hospitals. In the end, the proportion of pregnant people with severe disease was almost parallel to those described among nonpregnant adults of similar age. It is understood that more research and evidence-based information is needed to better assess the effects of COVID-19 on birthing families.

The work in balancing the tables of inequity continues. With the onset of the Coronavirus pandemic, there is the unanticipated consequences of further depended racial and ethnic disparity. Yes, profiling, in any regard, is beyond reprehensible; it is beyond unacceptable. In order to truly achieve the best outcomes for all childbearing families, we are required to be cognizant of the most glaring reasons care can be not only disproportionate, but also potentially dangerous.

"The COVID-19 crisis does not have to be the worst thing that could happen to a family expecting a baby. Because of the ongoing care and support of our doulas, Lauren & Faith, we truly had the best experience. As a new dad, I cannot tell you the amount of disabling fear I had for my wife and our unborn son. With the hospital policies changing day-to-day and at times, hour-to-hour, the anxiety was palpable. This is a time where an excellent support team is really not an option. We would never have been able to do this without Lauren & Faith. In fact, we are enthusiastically looking forward to baby #2 --- hopefully not during a pandemic!"
