I knew that birth and lactation was my calling from the time I entered nursing school over 15 years ago. The excitement and energy I felt when I attended my Mother-Baby courses and clinicals truly stood out from what I felt in my other studies. After working for a few years as a Registered Nurse in Boston and going back to graduate school, I traveled the world for a while and landed in Chile. I stayed there for several years, reconnected to my family roots, did volunteer work, studied Public Health and (finally) became fluent in Spanish. Upon returning to the US I worked as a nurse in a primary care clinic here in Washington DC where my love for maternal-child health was reignited.
I returned to the birth world with lots of motivation and inspiration. Within the matter of a year I enrolled in a doula training and began working as a private doula, became a prenatal yoga teacher, and began working towards becoming certified as a Lactation Consultant (IBCLC). I decided to return to hospital nursing in order to refresh my acute care nursing skills while I worked as a mother-baby nurse on a high risk postpartum unit. Once I became a certified IBCLC I transitioned to the role of Lactation Consultant for the same busy postpartum unit and NICU, where I most enjoy working one on one with growing families.
I can truly say I love what I do. I am passionate about caring for moms and babies throughout pregnancy and the postpartum period. I am continually amazed by the ability and strength of a woman’s body and believe that the processes of pregnancy, birth, breastfeeding and motherhood deserve to be nurtured and celebrated.
In my spare time I love to sit with a warm cup of coffee, practice yoga, spend time outdoors, and travel the world. I look forward to meeting you and being part of your journey.
